“Well, they need a little help doing some help doing the jobs. So since we are family I said that you would help them out this summer.
“What, no, no way, I’m not doing it!” Yelled Kate.
“Kate, yes you are, now go get packed. You leave Sunday.”
“Mom today’s Friday. I’m leaving tomorrow? And they have pigs. Mom, pigs are stinky and smell and very messy. I don’t want to be spending my summer cleaning up after pigs.” Complained Kate
“Yes Kate you leave tomorrow, go pack NOW! Demanded Mrs. Dower
Kate sighed. “Fine.” So Kate dragged her self upstairs and began to pack. She had to admit, she was going to miss her bowl of cereal and the horns honking. Just in general, she was going to miss New York City.
Kate spent the rest of the day in her room. She was emailing her friends to tell them that she wont be around this summer and to not bother calling her cell phone because she wouldn’t be able to answer it since she will be outside all day.
Kate couldn’t sleep that night. She was so angry. Kate was leaving for a farm tomorrow. She knew that if she went to sleep now, tomorrow would come sooner. She also didn’t want to miss her last moments in New York City.
The ride to the farm in Kentucky was long. Kate’s Mom was driving her, so she was talking to Kate about being safe and not wandering off. Little did she know that Kate had dozed off and wasn’t even listening.
When Kate woke up her Mom was driving up the dirt rode.
“Great.” Said Kate. “The torture begins now.”
Mrs. Dower didn’t hear her and jus kept driving up the rode. Then a little old farmhouse came into few.
“Oh my god.” Said Kate. It looks like its from the 18 hundreds.”
“That’s because it is.” Mrs. Dower said happily
“Great, I’m going to be living in a house that’s probably infested with a 200 year old wooden skeleton. Yeah.” Kate said sarcastically.
Just then, two people walked out of the house. Kate looked closely and realized that it was her Aunt and Uncle.
“Kate, darling, how are you doing.” They both said at the same time.
“Um great until yesterday.” Kate told them.
“Good I knew you would say that.” Said Aunt Pat in a rush. “Okay you come with me. I’ll get you settled in and Judy, go home. Get some rest.”
“Okay, bye Kate” Said Mrs. Dower as she walked off.
“Bye, Mom.” Kate said disappointed and looked at the ground.
“Alright.” Said Uncle Jim. “Here is your rake. Go rake some hay and um by the way you have to watch the pigs too. There is one pig that has wings he loves to run out of the gate. He was sold to us because he runaway once and the person who was watching him at the moment had all sorts of bad luck until the pig came back. So be careful.” And Uncle Jim walked off.
Kate walked through the gate and the started to rake some hay. Then all the pigs walked into the field. Kate turned around and saw him. She saw the pigs that had wings. He had a bell around his neck so all she could hear was ding ding ding ding ding ding ding. She didn’t think he looked like a troublemaker, but she would soon find out that she was wrong. Then she noticed that the dinging was getting fainter. She knew that the field
Wasn’t that big so she turned around t checked it out.
The first thing she noticed that was she left the gate open. Then beyond that all she could see was a pink dot getting smaller and smaller then the pig disappeared.
Just then she heard something weird coming from the direction that the pig ran. It sounded like… “Ha ha ha ha.” |
