Title of Comic: Soul Calibur in Therapy
Date Completed: July 16, 2007

Describe your story and characters:  How did you come up with this idea?  What are you trying to communicate to your readers?

After playing Soul Calibur 2, I’ve noticed that Nightmare always says something about souls.  Well, I think it would be funny if a therapist tries to change this.  Now, of course the therapist dies at the end, otherwise, this comic wouldn’t be funny.  I’m trying to communicate to Soul Calibur fans that Nightmare needs to get a new shtick.  For people who don’t know what Soul Calibur is, or just don’t like it, I’m secretly telling them to play it.  If you look really hard in the comic, you will see mind control messages in tiny print that say, “PLAY SOUL CALIBUR 2 IT’S AWESOME!”

Does your comic evoke a certain feeling?

I expect people to have some sort of confused expression and saying, “Whaaaaat?  What happened?”  Well, that’s what would happen if these people have never played Soul Calibur.  If they do, then they will probably laugh, and my making a mockery of one of the most memorable characters in the series might appall some hardcore fans.

What materials & techniques did you use to make your comic?

I used a pencil to draw everything, and I inked, colored, and added panels and effects with Photoshop.  As for techniques, I just drew a human character for the therapist, and I got an image of Nightmare, and tried to draw off of that.  It didn’t come out very well, but I think the effects that I drew in the background will make up for it, and hopefully, readers won’t care.

Is this a successful comic?  Is there anything you would change or improve?

It could be better, but I like it. But I would change the way Nightmare looks (see above).

What did you learn?

That Nightmare is difficult to draw, and I’ll never try again, unless I get a huge burst of artistic talent.  (See above)

Other comments about your creative process:

Remember when I said there were subliminal mind control messages in the text of the comic?  I lied.
