Mirror's Edge - Play It
There's something to be said for a game that is still fun even though it has the undeniable power of making human beings sick. The key word in the title of that Penny Arcade strip is slightly.

I can tell you one thing, when I play Mirror's Edge, I get painfully motion sick after about a half hour of gameplay. Here's the shocker though, I usually play for an hour to an hour and a half per sitting. Sessions like that usually require about two hours of recovery time. So what about the game could possibly make me put up with this torture?

Playing Mirror's Edge makes you feel talented. It's hard to say what that talent is. I sure as heck don't harbor the belief that I can head out to the city and free run all over the place. I'm not even sure it's convinced me that free running is even a cool endeavor, but when you complete a section of a level in a smooth and fluid way, running from rooftop to rooftop, it just makes you feel like you are accomplishing something special.

This invigorating feeling is probably amplified by the fact that the smooth and fluid moments sit right next to obscenely frustrating sequences. There were several moments where the controller desperately wanted to fly through the TV. Part of the reason these moments were so frustrating is that they kept me from getting to the next part of the game. The worst offenders usually involved fighting and shooting. With just a single 'punch' button, it wasn't immediately obvious why some attacks would work great and others were countered. It felt like every confrontation was just decided by some random dice roll.

Overall though, the grand running and jumping easily make up for bland punching. The developers obviously realize this too, as the first DLC expansion will drop the futuristic cityscape in favor of a surreal obstacle course. Even if you get motion sick as easy as I do, you should play this game.
